Education

University of Notre Dame, BS in Mathematics and English with an Honors Concentration in Creative Writing, class of 2017

Experience

I was employed as a Notre Dame Student Athlete Tutor 2013-2017, and I often tutored in an unofficial capacity. I adore tutoring because I adore learning. Giving someone the tools they need to find that "eureka" moment is immensely satisfying to me (and hopefully to them!). Plus, I get to solve the puzzle of how to best help them understand! Relevant classes: Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Introduction to Math Reasoning, Combinatorics, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Coding Theory, Algebraic Geometry; AP Language, AP Literature, various university English classes; AP Chemistry, university's General Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry I, Biochemistry I. Scores: SAT -- 2190, ACT -- 34, GRE -- 162 (for both Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning), AP Lang, Lit, and Calc AB -- 5, AP Chemistry -- 4. I am happy to provide inquirers with more specific information as necessary.

Hobbies

I'm one of those unusual people who actually enjoys using both the scientific and creative halves of her brain. In math, I'd describe myself as a puzzle solver. I like to understand why things work the way they work, and to try to apply those concepts to new fields. I'm most partial to the fields of abstract algebra, algorithms, and combinatorics. I'm also passionate about English, in a very different way. Reading is a pleasure. I soak up anything and everything like a greedy sponge. What I enjoy most about the language arts, though, is writing. My computer is full of finished, half-finished, and a few completely forgotten stories. I'm currently working on turning my creative novella thesis into a full novel to be published. When I'm not typing furiously or staring into space trying to find the exact right word, I'm usually off on some wild adventure, led by that elusive spark that draws you to something totally new and strangely fitting. I love reading, obviously. Some of my favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Rick Riordan, and Diana Wynne Jones. I need to stay active and social, so sports like volleyball and softball are a perfect fit. I watch more Netflix than I probably should. I also randomly fell into sewing a few years ago, and have since made my little sister a costume for Anna from Frozen, and one for Sofia from the kids' show Sofia the First. (They're cuter than the store-bought costumes. No, I'm not biased. Okay, maybe a little bit.)
