MA in English Literature from University of Kansas (2012, Lawrence, KS), 4.0 GPA; BA in English Literature, English 8-12 Teaching Certification from the University of Dallas (2009, Dallas, TX), 3.84 GPA

Experience

I have been an English teacher for the past five years, teaching at both the high school and college level. I am interested in tutoring because I believe all students can learn to be strong writers, readers, and studiers – sometimes it just takes a little help. Nothing makes me happier than seeing someone recognize their own potential and learning to appreciate abilities they didn’t even know they had. I graduated from the University of Dallas in 2009 with a BA in English (3.83 GPA). I received my 8-12 English certification in Texas in 2009, taught 9th, 10th, and 11th grade regular, honors, and pre-AP English for Irving ISD from 2009-2010 before beginning a Masters in English at the University of Kansas. During my time at KU, I taught Composition, Critical Reading and Writing, and Introduction to Fiction at the University, as well as helping students prepare for graduate level exams and improve application essays. After graduating with an MA in English (4.0 GPA) in 2012, I remained at the University of Kansas as a full-time lecturer in English, with an emphasis on American and British literature. As with anything else, it takes practice to become a strong writer and reader, and I teach my students the necessary skills to become lifelong learners and students of English. I am highly organized, flexible to meet my students’ needs and learning styles, and excited to help my students find success in whatever they seek to achieve – be that a 5 on the AP Literature exam (like I did!), a strong SAT verbal score, the skills necessary to get an A on an English or History test, or learning how to edit and proofread their own writing.

Hobbies

In addition to literature, I am interested in film, travel, and sports. In my free time, I enjoy playing volleyball, reading for fun, and spending time with my husband, who is finishing up a law degree at KU. For the Spring 2013 semester I am teaching at KU on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but am available to tutor on MWF or weekends. In the summer, I am available anytime.
