My work as a published author has given me a deep appreciation for how writing influences everyday life. I believe that having strong writing skills gives an individual a competitive advantage in the modern job market. I continue to write for a vast array of publications and ad copy for several industries. In addition, I have three published children's books and several screenplays that I have authored. I served 4 years in the US Navy prior to my college education. I am a distinguished graduate from the University of Kansas where I received my bachelor's degree in English. I then went on to complete my master's in English, and published my thesis in Structural Review with the City University of New York. I have taught Literature and Composition courses at the University of Kansas, and later at a Kansas City community college. In addition to the necessity of strong writing skills, I believe that developing a taste for what has been written by others helps to develop critical thinking skills. When I am able to help students unlock their skills in reading and writing, I feel as if I have been enriched. Outside of work and tutoring, I enjoy reading, birding, and tennis.
