I have been a peer tutor for two years at my Alma Mater, Mostly in Biology and Chemistry. I am very friendly and only tutor because I love teaching the younger generations not because anyone is forcing me to do so. I believe that our school system grouping of students based on age is not the best model for teaching simply because everyone has a different learning curve of understanding material and many students would excel tremendously if they had a few extra hours of supplemental teaching to reaffirm their understanding.

First off, I make sure to prepare thoroughly for the lesson to make sure nobody's time or money is wasted. Secondly I like to implement the socratic method of learning. Basically, its a form of discussion where I ask the students questions to gauge their level of conceptual understanding of the material. Not only does this process help unravel gaps in understanding but it also stimulates critical thinking.
