Experience
My psychology degree, which I received from Rice University, has helped me empathize with my tutoring students when they struggle with a particular subject. I have worked with a reading institute, so I understand through my education and my experience that several students have difficulty reading because the human brain needs to combine small pieces of new information to effectively process the material. However, when students feel anxious, overwhelmed, or have a learning disorder that is misunderstood, then it is easy for them to fail to process the material. That's why tutoring is so important for students: it gives them a chance to work at their own pace, with my guidance, so they do not miss important information. Plus, they learn good study skills. I work closely with my students, including students who have psychological conditions that prevent them from learning at the same speed as their classmates, and I have seen their confidence grow as they improve their grades and testing. This confidence improves their academic performance even more! I can tutor students in reading comprehension, but I can also tutor them in study skills, standardized test preparation, mathematics for elementary through high school students, phonics, government, and psychology.
