Rachel completed her B.A. in English at Cornell University, graduating Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and her M.A. in English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. While at Cornell, Rachel was a tutor at the Knight Institute Writing Walk-In Service. She advised dozens of undergraduate and graduate students on brainstorming, writing, and editing academic essays and personal statements, with a focus on thesis development, organization, and audience.
Experience
Rachel is a passionate educator with experience working with hundreds of students from sixth grade through graduate school. She has taught English and Social Studies and tutored students in writing organized and thoughtful essays and application personal statements. Before her family's recent relocation to Kansas City, Rachel taught eighth grade English and Social Studies at an elite private school in New York City. She facilitated daily discussions, text studies, and multi-genre writing exercises to empower her students and strengthen their individual skill sets as readers, writers, and thinkers. A strong believer that effective educators should also be lifelong learners, Rachel seeks out opportunities to further develop her teaching skills. Most recently, she participated in workshops with Facing History and Ourselves and the New York Public Library. She also dabbles in different forms of writing and has had her journalistic and creative work published by the Jerusalem Post and Cornell’s Ink Magazine. Rachel is patient, organized, and eager to adapt her teaching practices to her students’ individual strengths, needs, and goals.
