Experience
I have seven years of experience in teaching and tutoring. I take a non-directive approach to tutoring. I pose questions to my students and work as a guide to assist them in discovering the answers for themselves. I believe that this approach allows students to develop and practice their critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning. I have found that this is a much more effective manner to learning than simple memorization. A complete understanding of concepts helps students to be able to utilize the information and take ownership of their education as independent learners. I am interested in working with students in a variety of different subjects. The first position that I held in teaching was with Mizzou. After I earned my master's degree, I joined with Teach For America, where I taught English at a high school level for two years. My most recent experience is with teaching developmental English and Composition at Penn Valley Community College. I have attended Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Missouri, Columbia. I enjoy spending my spare time with family. I also enjoy reading, traveling, and playing video games.
