I recently completed my PhD in Political Science at the University of Kansas with majors in International Relations and Comparative Politics and a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I also have an MA in Arabic/Islamic Studies from KU and a second MA in International Affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, DC.
Experience
I taught Arabic and Russian classes at Johnson County Community College for 10 years as well as first and second year Arabic classes at the University of Kansas. Most of my language training was at Middlebury College's summer language intensive program. I have tutored Arabic and Russian students and I am particularly good at explaining the complicated grammar in both languages. I am a U.S. Government certified Arabic translator and level 3 Russian translator and worked for 12 years in this capacity.

Hobbies
My PhD fieldwork was in Morocco and Tunisia and I write extensively about legal reform and human rights activism in North Africa. I have four teenagers and a huge Great Pyrenees named Nala, who I enjoy walking. I love teaching and I am preparing syllabi for a career in Political Science, Women's Studies, and foreign language instruction. I love spending time with my family, but my true passion is making these complicated languages accessible to new language learners.
